The summer solstice has come, marking the first official day of summer. Hello pitta season! If you've been following me for a while, then you know that summer is my absolutely favorite season. The heat. The sun. The glowing skin. The smell of sunscreen. All the fruit. I mean--everything.
I don't know what it is about summer, but it gets me every time. Maybe because I'm an almost summer baby. But no matter. It's here, and I'm super excited. With that however, we all know there are adjustments we need to make in the kitchen to support the bounty that summer provides for us. Living in harmony with our surroundings and not in disharmony is super important, and is what ayurveda is all about! Here are some tips to get you and your kitchen adjusted.

Bless all that deserves to be blessed, because it will finally be in the 80s this week in New Mexico! I couldn't be more thrilled. This Southern girl has been WAITING for this warm weather to be her best self. There is nothing I love more than feeling free in my chacos and wearing tshirts without having to have a sweatshirt or jacket of some sort. I really am meant to be in the warmth--all. the. time.
With the change in weather, I know that I need to adjust my diet as well to prepare my body for the hotter days. It's time to fortify our lungs and respiratory tracts. Our lungs are the seat of kapha, and especially right now as we go through the pandemic, it's super important to strengthen them.
As spring approaches and the weather gets warmer, kapha will naturally start to melt in our systems. This leaves us susceptible to lung-stuff. So, how do we fortify and strengthen our respiratory system to maintain optimal health? |
