Wedding season has officially begun for me. For the next two weekends, I'll be flying back to the East coast to be a part of two dear friends' take the next steps in their lives. And while I'm super ecstatic to be with them and many others, I know it will be an un-grounding 2-3 weeks for me.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, traveling (especially air travel) increases Vata. When vata is high, you can almost guarantee that there will be a feeling of uneasiness, some poor digestion, forgetting things easily, and maybe even a sense of confusion and anxiety. More often than not, for me this manifests in my digestion getting so thrown off, that it takes a good solid week to restabilize. My last trip to Dallas was just a few weeks ago. Let me tell you that it was literally a 1-hour flight there. Although it was a short trip, my body was so thrown off, that my sleep and mood were affected--and not in the good ways. I know it sounds crazy, but the next time you hop on the plane, try and stay in tune with your body, and see what happens--different sensations and feelings. As much as I love traveling, there are definitely things I need to do to prepare my body for take off. Try these tips before you leave your home.
These are just a few tips to help you prepare for taking off. Remember, you can help transition from city to city, airplane to airplane that helps your body and mind overall. The more you take care of yourself before hand and are prepared, the more fun you can have during your trip!

So, here I am working on the April newsletter, and the theme that naturally comes to me is one of nourishment. I suppose it just makes sense since it is spring time. Spring to me means nourishment and a revival. It's like a new chance to just go deeper and find yourself more and more with each day and each moment. I think it's pretty cool.
We all need nourishment in our lives. We just have to figure out how that manifests for us. Ayurveda gives many tools for individuals to explore with. All it takes is for you to find out what works for you. I think that's my favorite part of Ayurveda--it's uniqueness from person to person. There is no right or wrong or one way of doing and seeing things. It all varies from person to person. Nourishment is key to a happy, healthy, and holistic life. This obviously comes in many forms. We need to make sure we are nourishing our bodies with proper food and diets, proper exercise routines, and even proper spiritual practices. Again, this varies from person to person. Here are some different techniques that I use in my own life to ensure proper nourishment for me! Try some of the different methods and see if any works for you!
These are just a few ideas that I try to incorporate into my own life as much as possible. Experiment with some things on your own, and share what works for you! What nourishes you? To learn about other Ayurvedic techniques on ways to nourish yourself, contact me, and let's talk! Happy almost spring time everyone! The weather is finally starting to warm up down here in Texas, and I couldn't be more excited! The warmth of spring literally melts away all that was built up during the winter time. Cold, sticky, slow qualities tend to be more prevalent in the winter--that which is on the outside, will be seen on the inside. Our bodies are influenced by our environment so much, its amazing to pick up on the similarities.
But, with the spring season, all of those phlegm-y qualities start to melt. This is why spring is a great time for doing a cleanse! As the weather and the environment transitions into a new beginning, transitioning our bodies to take on spring with an air of freshness and zeal makes a huge difference. If you don't have time for a full on cleanse, try to incorporate some of these tips to take on spring!
Spring is a beautiful season. Take the time to re-nourish yourself and get back in touch with who you are. Look back to your resolutions you created just a few short months ago and reflect. What were you able to accomplish? What didn't get started at all? This is a great time for reflection and rejuvenation. What will you do to replenish yourself? |
