Finding Comfort

It's a harder task right now. How do I find comfort in times of natural distress and commotion? I mean, quite literally the US is panicking. Case in point, I bought a 12 pack of Mac and Cheese just in case. The bigger question is what the heck is happening?
From an Ayurvedic perspective, all stress and anxiety is, is elevated vata dosha. And hey, you know what? THAT IS OKAY! It may seem overwhelming and it may feel like it's not possible to overcome. But luckily, Ayurveda is pretty common sense. It is easy (relatively) to overcome.

The general idea behind this that we want to look at is inherent qualities. Vata is dry, rough, cold, isolating, expansive. In Ayurveda, we treat with opposite qualities. This part is pretty simple. Opposite of dry? Oily. Rough? Smooth. Cold? Warm. Isolating? Community and closeness. Ask yourself--how can I bring these qualities into my being? Into my life?

By doing this, inherently we will be able to find comfort amongst chaos. If we can sincerely put in the effort to seek these things out in our life, love and compassion will naturally arise. When we can align ourselves with the higher truths of love, our healing capacity for not only ourselves but for the universe increases exponentially.

Ayurvedically, I encourage you to find things that comfort you that imbibe these qualities of softness, unctuousness, warmth, and cozy. Maybe tap into ideas of hygge.

What am I doing? Find my list below.

Much healing love to you all!
  • Bundling up in warm blankets with a good book (or kindle ;) ).
  • Hydrating with room temp or warm water--the best way to combat dry.
  • Daily oil massages with warm sesame oil before I shower.
  • Spending time with my family. We're self-quarantining ourselves and finding joy in being with each other.
  • Cooking. Food is comfort for me, and more importantly cooking for others.
  • Decluttering--finding space for things that give me meaning and joy.
  • Maintaining and re-grounding in my routine (see my article on Ayurvedic Self-Care for inspiration).
  • Sharing this online space with you all.
